At England Athletics, I was responsible for national marketing and communications activity for the participation side of athletics, including that of Run England – England Athletics’ national participation programme at the time.
I developed the programme’s online presence, media library and promotional materials, and provided training and leadership to regional delivery teams.
I also led on a number of integrated campaigns, using social media, print and broadcast media, regional delivery teams and national partners to encourage more people to start running with Run England groups.
These campaigns were featured in the Guardian, Sky Sports, BBC, Netmums, Runner’s World, Running Fitness and Good Housekeeping, and I was asked to present to other national governing bodies at Women In Sport’s Marketing and Communications Forum as an example of best practice.
Thanks to these efforts, the number of registered running groups grew from 500 to 2,500+, programme membership grew from 5,000 to 80,000+ and website and social media reach grew by an average of more than 25% per year.
During my time at England Athletics, I also managed all the communications activity for the launch of an All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Running to facilitate Parliamentary lobbying for the running sector.
